I teach modules in French language, translation and interpreting and supervise undergraduate research projects on study abroad, collective identity, and interculturality. I also teach and supervise projects on the Durham MA in Translation Studies. I have a number of School-level responsibilities for curriculum development, academic advising and student representation.

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy; I have an undergraduate degree from Oxford University in French and History, and an MA and PhD in French from Durham University.

My research and scholarship activities focus on four areas of interest: the practice of academic scholarship and its impact on student experience; study abroad and the modern languages curriculum; translation teaching methodologies and student learning; intercultual encounters in translation history.

I am very much interested in the promotion of the French language and francophone culture in the UK as well as in encouraging study abroad. I play an active role in MLAC’s Outreach programme.
