Research Project

My PhD thesis adopts a sociological approach in understanding English translation of Hong Kong Chinese poetry before and after 1997, the transitional period of Hong Kong’s handover from Britain to China. Applying Luhmann’s social systems theory, the thesis examines translation as a social phenomenon and how social forces bring about a surge of poetry translation activities. The thesis integrates theoretical investigation with empirical case studies and textual analysis as the research methodology.

I have been teaching Translation and English Communication at post-secondary colleges in Hong Kong, after completing a MA in Translation at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Working as a freelance translator, I specialise in English-Chinese translation and proofreading of corporate materials, user manuals and health assessment questionnaires. My research interests lie in the fields of translation and communication studies.
