Applied Mathematics Seminars: Phase-field approximations of Griffith energies and the non-interpenetration of fractures

Presented by Antonin Chambolle, École Polytechnique

6 October 2017 14:00 in CM219

We discuss numerical approaches for the computation of cracks in a brittle material, and of their evolution. We address the issue of interpenetration of the crack, and the numerical analysis of methods which have been proposed to prevent it.

This seminar series is the continuation of the Numerical Analysis Seminar series that ran until August 2016. This change of name reflects the broader interests of the Applied Mathematics group (note that the Mathematical and Theoretical Particle Physics group also has a seminar series).
