Accessing Theses from Other Universities
The most popular British PhD theses are freely available electronically through British Library's EThOS service. EThOS holds hundreds of thousands of electronic theses which are available for immediate download, as well as links to theses held in individual university repositories around the UK. Thousands more theses can be scanned (on request to EThOS) free of charge. Some theses incurr a scanning fee of around £55: if this is the case then place a DDS request via the thesis request form and we will either try to borrow the original thesis or arrange for a subsidized scan from EThOS (you/your department would pay £12.50 rather than the full cost of scanning).
- If you want to view a UK thesis please check to make sure that it is not already available via EThOS before making a Document Delivery Service request.
Requesting international theses
Many American theses are available online via the Library's subscription to ProQuest Dissertations and theses global. Many international theses are also freely available via the internet. Use the links on the right hand side to view collections of electronic theses. If you are unable to find an electronic copy of a thesis from outside the UK then please fill in a Document Delivery thesis request form. We will endevour to find an institution that stocks the thesis, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to supply a copy.
