Short Loan Collection
The Short Loan Collection is made up of items in high demand or unavailable in digital format. At the Bill Bryson Library they are identifiable by red tape on the spine and at Leazes Road, by green tape. The Short Loan Collection includes books, DVDs and journals, which are all arranged in shelfmark order, and journal articles, which are arranged A-Z by author name.
Books from reading lists are often found in the Short Loan Collection. Check titles from your reading list here.
How do I know if the item I am looking for is in the Short Loan Collection?
Check the catalogue or follow the link from your reading list details. When the item details are displayed, the location and type of loan will tell you.
Who can borrow Short Loan items?
All members of the University can borrow from the Short Loan collection. Visitors cannot.
How many Short Loan items can I borrow?
Up to three items at once.
How long can I keep Short Loan items for?
For four hours. If you borrow the item less than four hours before closing, it will be due back one hour after the library re-opens. Please check the current library opening hours
Can I reserve a Short Loan item?
Can I renew a Short Loan item?
No - there may be someone else waiting to use it after you. However, if the item hasn't been borrowed 15 minutes after being returned you may borrow it again.
Where do I return Short Loan items?
Via the book return slots at the Help and Information desk, near the yellow reservation shelves.
What happens if I return a Short Loan item late?
You will be charged £1.00 per item per hour!
