Deposit

Deposit in DRO is easy:

  • Create a Staff Profile record describing your output
  • Attach the final accepted, peer-reviewed manuscript to the record
  • ONLY attach the published version if your copyright agreement with the publisher permits OR an Article Processing Charge (APC) has been paid for Gold open access

What happens next? The DRO Team check the information in the Staff Profile record, then transfer a copy record to DRO. The manuscript is deposited straightaway, but access may be closed-off if the publisher imposes an embargo or if the Team has to contact the publisher for permission to deposit.

  • Connect to the Staff Profile system
  • Login using your CIS username and password
  • Select My profile from the left-hand menu
  • then Edit Publications -> Add Publication
  • Choose one of the following three options to open a new record:
    1. Enter publication's Digital Object Identifier (DOI) if known (DOIs should be on the publisher's website and have the format 10.1068/a43176) OR
    2. Enter key details about the publication OR
    3. Enter details manually (might be best for first- time users)
  • Select Submit publication button
  • If the record is already in the system, select Add yourself as a co-author OR select Create publication button to save the record

Follow these instructions if you have just created and saved a new Staff Profile record:

  • Select link at the top of the screen Upload full text for Durham Research Online (DRO)
  • Browse button and locate the file to upload
  • Attach final accepted, peer-reviewed manuscript
  • Transfer button

Follow these instructions if you did not upload your manuscript immediately after you created the Staff Profile record:

  • Select My profile from the left-hand menu
  • Edit Publications
  • Upload full text for Durham Research Online (DRO)
  • Locate the title of the publication in the drop-down box
  • Select publication
  • Browse button and locate the file to upload
  • Attach final accepted, peer-reviewed manuscript
  • Transfer button

The maximum filesize is 150MB. Please email the DRO Team if you wish to deposit a file larger than this.

If you're off-campus you cannot access the Staff Profile system directly, but remote access is possible. Either request access to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) by completing the online form OR contact the ITS Service Desk to request access to MDS Anywhere.
