Funding opportunities for PGR students to attend British Library’s Doctoral Open Days

(4 December 2017)

Durham University Library is pleased to be able to offer a small amount of funding to cover registration and travel costs for any Durham registered doctoral research students who wish to attend one of the British Library’s Doctoral Open Days, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Durham University Library is pleased to be able to offer a small amount of funding to cover registration and travel costs for any Durham registered doctoral research students who wish to attend one of the British Library’s Doctoral Open Days (whilst spaces remain available – some are already limited), on a first-come, first-served basis and whilst funding remains (we have a total allowance of £500, which we estimate should cover registration and travel costs for around 10 students).

For those wishing to attend the Boston Spa Open Day (31 January 2018):

- We can cover the registration fee for the open day

- We can cover the cost of Train tickets to York and back (Standard Class), from any North East train station (or equivalent).
- Programme for the day:

For those wishing to attend the one of the London Open Days (January/February 2018):

- We can cover the registration fee for the open day

- We can cover part of the travel costs, up to the value of £30.

Whilst you can register to attend more than one of the open days, we can only fund one open day attendance per person.

In return for covering that cost, we want you to enjoy the day, hopefully find it both rewarding and productive, and to let us know afterwards what you valued the most from the visit (no more than a couple of lines required, but on the understanding that we can re-use those lines in promotion of similar future events, or to inform support Durham University Library might be able to offer in future).

If you are interested in attending one of the Doctoral Open Days, and would like to apply for funding from Durham University Library, please contact james.bisset@durham.ac.uk as soon as possible (by 4pm on January 5th at the latest – although we cannot guarantee there will still be funding remaining by that date) with details as below:-

- Which open day you wish to attend

- Preferred train times / departure station

- Your name and department

- A brief outline of your research project (title or working title is fine!)

If you have already registered for one of the advertised open days and paid for registration / train tickets already, please contact us to let us know and we will see what we can do.
