University Library

Borrowing books

The library has a postal loans service which will enable students registered on distance learning courses to ask for books to be posted to addresses in the UK. Follow the link to the postal loans service for more information and a request form.

If you borrow books then you might be interested in the tips on managing your loans available on the page for part-time students. If you live close enough to the university to visit then the part-time students page on borrowing books provides information on requesting books which are out on loan to other students (reservations), however if you want them posting to you then you will need to make the application through the postal loans service.

Accessing books held in other libraries. The library offers a Document Delivery Service (sometimes called Inter Library loans in other universities) and this service is available to all university members. Books borrowed through the Document Delivery Service have to be collected from one of the university libraries: we are unable to post them to your home address. If you want to view a book and are unable to visit the university library, then you can either request copies of single chapters through the Document Delivery Service, or you might want to see if the book is held in a library near you. See the page on visiting other libraries for information on gaining access to your local libraries.
