The 9-year Mohamed Ali Foundation Fellowship programme was inaugurated on 29 June with the donation to the university of £114,000 by the Foundation. Fellows will research the Abbas Hilmi II Papers and produce lectures and ultimately an edited volume in 2027.

The residential fellowship programme is based at IMEIS and Grey College, but fellows will be able to reside in Cairo, Istanbul, or in other locations with relevant archival collections. This programme should raise the profile of the collection, and contextualise it with others held across the region: it is hoped the collaborative nature of the programme will also serve to build international links between this university and others in the Middle East.
