The Head of Durham Law School, Professor Thom Brooks, has been named the School's inaugural Dean. The change of title is increasingly used globally to raise visibility and denote the standing of leading law schools. Brooks, who has led the School since August 2016, said, "Durham Law School has undergone a remarkable transformation in a short period of time from a Department of Law to a Law School and now from having a Head of Department or School to a Dean. This is no American import even if common in US law schools, but a sign of the University's commitment to the Law School's future strategy and ambitious global profile raising -- which is great news for our staff, student and alumni."
