University Strategy 2017-2027

Durham University is committed to delivering excellence across the board and in key respects we do this already. However, we do not want to stand still and we have exciting plans, some of which are already coming to fruition, to further improve the size, shape and mission of the University.

Examples of changes planned and already in train include:

  • Hosting an International Study Centre (ISC) at our Queen’s Campus in Stockton-on-Tees, run in partnership with Study Group.
  • Building research critical mass in all of our academic departments.
  • Increasing the student population to a maximum of 21,500 by 2027, with distinguished faculty members to be recruited in sufficient numbers to improve our staff-student ratios.
  • Housing over 50% of our students in College accommodation by 2027; including the establishment of four to six new Colleges in partnership with private sector developers.

These are only a snapshot of our exciting initiatives and plans. We already employ outstanding people, work with great students and benefit from a strong infrastructure. Having reviewed our size, shape and mission, we know not just who we are, but also where we are going.
