Information Security

What Training is available?

It is important that we are all aware of our role and responsibilities with regard to information security. Being serious about security requires us to do the right things, in the right way and at the right time. After all we don’t shout out our PIN when withdrawing money from a cash machine and we don’t have the code to our burglar alarm on a sticker by the front door.

The University’s information security training is split into three areas: an online training module, face-to-face workshops, and a web page of hints and tips with links to other external resources.

Training module

The online training module has been designed to develop awareness of information security; what it is, how to ensure we keep our own and the University’s information secure and what to do if there is a breach. The messages are also relevant to your personal information. At the end of the module there is a multiple choice quiz that will check your understanding.

To access it, log onto duo (Durham University Online, our virtual learning environment) and follow the links to Data Protection Training.

Please note this training is mandatory for all staff with access to University information.

Hints and tips

There are a number of “bite-sized” pieces of information that can be useful to you too. By visiting the Tips and advice page you will find a variety of suggestions, hints and tips that will ensure that all our information is kept as securely as possible. There are also a number of links to external resources and related materials to help you find out more.
