Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)

To apply for a new Tier 4 Student visa, you must have a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) issued by Durham University.

The CAS is a unique reference number which confirms that the University has agreed to be your Tier 4 Sponsor and provides information about you and your study to UK Visas & Immigration (UKV&I) as part of your visa application.

  • A new CAS is required every time you apply for a Tier 4 (General) Student visa
  • If you use a CAS issued by Durham University your visa will only be valid for study at Durham University
  • The CAS contributes 30 of the 40 points that you need to obtain your Tier 4 Student visa

Current students continuing on the same programme

If you are currently a student at Durham and need to extend your visa in order to complete the programme that your current visa is for, or you are resuming your study after a period of suspension you can request a CAS online from the Student Immigration Office.

Request your CAS online from the Student Immigration Office at least 2 months before you intend to apply for your visa (where possible). Once requested, your CAS will be processed and confirmation will be emailed to you when ready.
