Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) collection

If you applied for a visa in your home country then you will need to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from one of the the approved collection locations you chose as part of your visa application, when you arrive in the UK.

Your UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) decision letter will tell you where to collect your BRP on arrival.

Please note: You must collect your BRP within 10 days of arriving in the UK or before your 30 day entry visa expires, whichever is later.

If you are applying for a visa outside the UK, you can choose to collect your BRP from Durham University Student Immigration Service, Palatine Centre when you arrive in the UK. To do this, you should enter the Alternative Collection Location (ACL) Code 2HE632 in your Tier 4 application when asked to do so.

Please note: Do not use this code if you are a Study Group Student based at Queen's Campus

You should aim to collect your BRP from the University within 10 days of arrival in the UK or before your 30 day entry visa expires, whichever is later (you can collect your BRP at this location even if it is after these dates). Your BRP will be held at the Student Immigration Service and once collected, you can then complete your Permission to Study Check as part of the registration process.

You can collect your BRP Monday - Friday, between 9.00am & 4.30pm only.

Please note: Once you have applied for your visa, it is not possible to change your choice of Collection Location.

If you do not choose the Alternative Collection Location, you will be advised to collect your BRP from a Post Office close to the address where you will live (Residential Address) or Durham University (Sponsor Address). In this case, it is likely that you will be advised to collect your BRP from Durham Post Office which is located within WHSmith, Market Square, Durham, DH1 3NJ.

You should then collect your BRP from the Post Office within 10 days of arrival in the UK or before your 30 day entry visa expires, whichever is later. Your BRP will only be held for this period. Once you have collected your BRP, you can complete your Permission to Study Check at the Palatine Centre, Durham University as part of the registration process.

You can collect your BRP Monday - Friday, between 9.00am & 5.00 & Saturday between 9.00am & 12.00pm.

Please note: Once you have applied for your visa, it is not possible to change your choice of Collection Location.

Nominating someone to collect your BRP on your behalf

If you are unable to collect your BRP yourself (for example you are under 18 or have a disability which prevents you from collecting it) you can nominate someone to collect your BRP on your behalf online. This must be confirmed before they collect your BRP for you.
