Welcome to Durham for new members of staff

Professor Stuart Corbridge, Vice-Chancellor and Warden

I am delighted to welcome you to Durham University – I hope your association with us will be a long and happy one.

In joining Durham, you have become part of a supportive and diverse community that is committed to creating a positive working environment and excellent opportunities for our staff and students.

The University has an international reputation, not only for world-class research and education, but also for providing students with a rich and well-rounded learning experience through our college communities and extensive extra- curricular activities.

As a member of staff, you are also part of these communities, and you too can enjoy learning, sport, music, cultural activities or just working amongst our beautiful surroundings.

Durham is an inspiring and exciting place to live and work. The University itself is full of history and tradition with a World Heritage Site at its heart. The city also offers charming streets and beautiful riverside paths.

Durham County and the wider region is home to spectacular countryside, a fascinating heritage and vibrant cities. Whatever your interests, you will find much to discover and explore.

Finally, I greatly value the contribution that our staff make to the successes of the University.
