Oracle Learning

Introducing Oracle Learning

We are launching Oracle Learning across the University as our central portal for staff training. It’s part of our existing Oracle Fusion self-service portal and once fully implemented, will replace both the staff training course booking system and Duo.

Oracle Learning is an online platform where we will host eLearning packages and manage staff training (including workshops). It brings a modern approach to delivering and participating in learning activities.

We currently use two systems to manage our staff training: Duo and the training course booking system.

As Duo is being replaced with a new Virtual Learning Environment over the coming year, and the training course booking system will no longer be operational from July 2021, it was sensible for us to move all of our staff training into a single purpose-built solution.

In doing this, we have opted to use Oracle Learning, part of the existing Oracle Fusion self-service portal that we already use for our staff information, holiday management and payroll.

This means you will be able to manage your learning and HR needs in one place, making things easier for you.

As members of staff, you will be able to enrol in and complete eLearning packages, book onto training workshops, and in time have access to your learning records in one place. This will make it easier to see what you have done and understand if you have any gaps in your learning.

For the first time, you will be able to easily see what Required Learning courses (the new name for mandatory training) are available and when they are due.

As managers, you will be able to see who in your team has completed their required learning, and who still needs to undertake it. Having this information at your fingertips will help you to ensure your team are up to date with legal and University requirements. In time, you will also be able to recommend and assign courses and learning items to individuals to meet their specific development needs, and track their progress, ensuring you can support them along their learning journey.

We are planning to commence the migration to Oracle Learning from 19th January 2021. This will be a phased migration, and not all content will be immediately available.

The first ‘Required Learning’ course you will be asked to complete on Oracle Learning will be our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion eLearning package.

There will also be some optional eLearning packages available at this time and the catalogue will grow over time. This will include courses to meet your specific development areas and learning goals.

Other Required Learning courses like Health and Safety and Data Protection will be migrated to Oracle Learning in future phases and the University Executive Committee has agreed a two-year period for all existing members of staff to complete their Required Learning.

If you have any questions or would like more information on Oracle Learning, please contact the Programme Manager, Steve Leggetter at

We will be hosting a series of drop-in surgeries for a month after the launch where you can ask any questions and get practical support. We will keep the FAQ section updated with answers to your questions from these sessions.

You can also share your questions in the Help Us Help You Teams channel: Here, and someone from the project team will be happy to help.
