First Aid at Work Training
As a result of the measures that have been put in place to deal with Covid-19, any training courses that cannot be delivered online are being postponed. This applies to any refresher courses for First Aid at Work (FAW), Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and Paediatric First Aid. We have consulted North East Ambulance Service who deliver the training for us and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is aware that disruption is likely to requalification training as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. They have therefore agreed to extend the validity of current certificates by up to 3 months. Anyone taking advantage of this extension should describe clearly their reasons for delaying requalification training, and demonstrate they are booked onto the next available course.
This can be applied to any certificates expiring on or after 16th March 2020.
First Aid Training Introduction
Heads of Departments and Colleges must identify a "responsible person” to maintain the First Aid requirements. A risk assessment must be carried out to establish the number of First Aiders required in their area. Guidance on risk assessment and first aid requirements are available via the Health & Safety Service.
Following risk assessment, all Colleges and Departments must ensure that they have the requisite number of First Aiders. First Aid Training Courses and Specialist Training Courses are available via the Occupational Health Service.
