Barbara Gribling’s research focuses on modern British cultural history from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries. She is interested in perceptions of the past, consumer culture and national identity. She is completing final revisions to her manuscript on how the late medieval hero, Edward the Black Prince, was used in the Georgian and Victorian eras by groups ranging from royals to radicals. This work, to be published by the Royal Historical Society in their series Studies in History, considers negotiations of the late medieval past through royal reinventions and popular consumption. She is also co-editing a volume on Chivalry and the Vision of the Medieval Past. Her new project explores children and consumption of the medieval past from 1880 to 1938 through exhibitions, tourism, theatre, pageants, books, toys and games. Barbara is interested in promoting history to the public and has worked as a researcher at the National Railway Museum and has published an article in BBC History Magazine. She has been a postdoctoral fellow at Tel Aviv University, a Visiting Scholar at the University of British Columbia and a Teaching Fellow in History at the University of York and the University of St Andrews.
