Durham University is a Bronze Level Hedgehog Friendly Campus

(25 February 2021)

Thanks to everyone involved in various campaigns, events and initiatives, Durham University has been awarded the Bronze Level Hedgehog Friendly Campus status for 2020/21 - an amazing achievement - especially under lockdown.

The Bronze award has been accredited by the Hedgehog Preservation Society and was achieved by completing hedgehog-friendly activities, conducting hedgehog surveys, taking part in The Big Hedgehog Friendly Litter Pick, in which the University came third, and many other activities.  We are now working on attaining the Silver award. Thank you to our volunteers, our Working Group, Student Conservation Groups, Grounds & Gardens Team and the Energy & Sustainability Team.

Want to get involved? Why not take part in the hedgehog bake off, running until Sunday 7 March, celebrating Fairtrade fortnight. All you have to do is create a hedgehog-themed bake and send your photo via social media or email and (if you can) donate to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society. Cakes, biscuits, pies, pancakes - if you can make a hedgehog, we want to see it. This event is part of the Durham University Hedgehog Friendly Campus campaign.
