Fairtrade Fortnight 2019
This year's Fairtrade Fortnight will take place between 25th February and 10th March, providing the opportunity for all University staff and students to find out more about Fairtrade and how they can support it. The University has been accredited by the Fairtrade Foundation since 2007. This year's Environment Week will also be incorporated into the Fairtrade celebrations.
Big Fairtrade Bake
The key event of Durham University's Fairtrade Fortnight is our University-wide Big Fairtrade Bake. Staff and students will be able to sign up to receive Fairtrade sugar and flour, kindly donated by Bidfoods, for the Big Fairtrade Bake competition.
Staff and students who sign up to the Big Bake will be asked to submit a photo of their Fairtrade Bake during the Fortnight to be entered into a prize draw for a selection of Fairtrade goodies. Participating staff and students may also wish to organise bake sales or similar events to raise money for charities of their choice.
Sample Fairtrade Products Courtesy of Bewley's
Fairtrade products courtesy of Bewley's were available for all to sample as well as the opportunity for staff and students to put their knowledge to the test in a Fairtrade quiz.
20% off Fairtrade Clothing
Staff and students also enjoyed 20% off University Fairtrade Retail’s clothing during Fairtrade Fortnight.
University Retail also ran a photo competition for Durham University students. They could take part by posting a photo of themselves wearing Durham University Fairtrade products on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Retail then chose an overall winner at the end of Fairtrade Fortnight and the lucky winner received a £50 voucher to spend on the Durham University retail website.
