Development of a social inclusion index to capture subjective and objective domains

(16 September 2005)

The NHS R&D Methodology Programme is inviting tenders under its initiative development of a social inclusion index to capture subjective and objective domains. The work will be in two phases: •Phase 1: review and consensus development around the

idea of social inclusion;

•Phase 2: a primary empirical study to develop a tested tool for

measurement of social inclusion.

Release of resources for phase 2 will be on the basis of success is phase 1, following the principle of iterative tendering. It is likely that only one of the phase 1 groups will be asked to continue to phase 2.

Up to £20,000 per group has been made available for phase 1 this project, and the work should be completed within six months. Up to £200,000 has been made available for phase 2, and work

should be completed within two years.
