Go green as you move out this summer
(23 June 2020)
Are you wondering how to get rid of those things you don’t want any more as you leave Durham this summer? The Green Move Out scheme is here to help.
What is Green Move Out?
You can donate belongings you no longer want to the County Durham Furniture Help Scheme (CDFHS).
That means less waste goes to landfill and your old things help a great local charity.
What can I donate?
Clothes, shoes, bedding, electrical items, pots and pans, crockery, books and non-perishable food, all of which will be reused, diverted or sold.
How do I donate?
If you live in College, you will be given a leaflet and a special purple donations bag. Leave your filled bag in your College.
If you live out, a leaflet and purple donations bag will be delivered to your house. Leave your filled bag outside your house. Daily collections will take place each weekday from Sunday 20 June to Wednesday 24 July.
Working together to keep Durham beautiful
We run Green Move Out with Durham County Council and CDFHS, with support from the City of Durham Parish Council.
Durham County Council is also making extra refuse and recycling collections, and operates a chargeable collection service for bulky waste. See your leaflet for more details.
Fifteen years of Green Move Out
Green Move Out started back in 2005, with just one College. Now it involves all of our Colleges and private accommodation too.
Last year, 4,500 bags of donated items were collected, including 27 tonnes of reusable items.
