New Head of University College appointed
(17 January 2020)
Our distinctive colleges provide our students with many opportunities and benefits, not least a sense of community and belonging. So it is important to us that those who lead our 17 colleges have the right mix of enthusiasm, empathy and leadership skills to help students become the people they want to be.
That’s why we are pleased to have appointed Dr Wendy Powers as Head of University College, (the oldest of our colleges), where she will be responsible for student development and wellbeing.
A true champion of diversity, equality and inclusion, Wendy is currently Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Alverno College, Milwaukee in the USA, where she has responsibility for the wider student experience. She will join us in Durham in June.
Wendy’s secondary role will be Associate Vice Provost (Education), where she will use her considerable skills and experience towards increasing the number of underrepresented students who apply to study with us, and will also look at how we can help them to thrive once they are enrolled here.
This is an area that Wendy is particularly passionate about and we look forward to welcoming her to Durham and benefitting from her tremendous knowledge and experience!
