14 Days of Christmas music

Over 500 Durham student musicians and singers are delivering a jam-packed season of Christmas concerts. Until the end of term on Friday 14th December, there will be at least one performance by a Music Durham, student music ensemble on every day, at a host of venues across the city! It promises to be a festive season full of variety, with music for every taste.
It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas!
Monday 3 December – DICCU Carol Service. or a traditional Christmas Carol Service, come along to Durham Cathedral for Durham’s Inter-Collegiate Christian Union Carol Service. Carols will be led by Durham University Choral Society with an exclusive performance from Durham University Gospel Choir.
Tuesday 4 December – Full Score present a night of Barbershop music – jazz, musical theatre and a few festive songs at St Oswald’s Church from 7.30pm.
Wednesday 5 December – This promises to be a really busy day, filled with music to enjoy, whatever your taste. New Art Music Ensemble will be giving today’s Lunchtime concert from 1:15pm, in the Music Department on Palace Green.
Later the same day, Voices Choir will perform their festive offering, ‘Voices at Christmas’ at St Oswald’s Church, an evening dedicated to Christmas music of all genres – from jazzy to traditional!
Friday 7 December – Join Durham University Classical Ensemble for Beethoven’s glorious seventh symphony, in the beautiful setting of Castle Great Hall.

Saturday 8 December – Chamber Choir present works by Britten, McDowall and Bingham in ‘A Boy Was Born’. This evening of Christmas celebration will be in St Godric’s Church
Sunday 9 December – And if tradition isn’t for you, join A Cappella group Foot Notes, for ‘I’m dreaming of an A CAPPELLA Christmas’ will be an evening full of popular tunes in Durham Castle Great Hall.
Monday 10 December – The Christmas Concert. Durham University Orchestral Society, Chamber Choir and Northern Lights team up in true Christmas spirit to present a night of traditional carols and festive favourites in Elvet Methodist Church (and expect the reappearance of Sleigh Ride!). £1 from every ticket will go to charity.
Tuesday 11 December – Join Durham’s largest mixed A Cappella Choir, Durham Dynamics the for their Christmas Concert featuring chart toppers, classics and festive tunes.
Wednesday 12 December – For traditional brass this Christmas, join Durham University Concert Band and Durham University Brass Band for ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’. With medleys of seasonal tunes, join two showstopping bands at their annual December concert.

Thursday 13 December – DUPO Chamber Orchestra present ‘Hats, Tangos and Shakespeare’, a varied and exciting range of music from around the world. Hear Honnegger with Piazzolla at St Margaret’s Church.
Friday 14 December – Join the Choral Society for ‘On Christmas Night’. A concert to round off the academic year with seasonal masterpieces like Britten’s Ceremony of Carols and St Nicholas, In Dulci Jubilo and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
