Dr Hazel Donkin completed her postgraduate studies in photography and French Surrealism at Northumbria University in 2010 and joined Durham University as a lecturer. 

Dr Donkin contributes to all of the undergraduate History of Art modules offered by the School of Education. She is the Director of the MA in Visual Culture in the department of Modern Languages and Cultures and runs MELA 45360 Visual Culture: Theory and Practice and MELA 45230 Critical Curatorship, the work placement module for that programme:

Dr Donkin is a member of the steering committee of CVAC (the Centre for Visual Arts and Culture). She is the Secretary for Visual Art on the University College SCR Executive. She is a Fellow of University College and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. 

Dr Donkin's research interest is in the field of Surrealism. She would welcome applications from potential PhD candidates interested in all areas of Surrealism.
