The project is part of iPIPS (www.ipips.org) and involves tracking the progress of children in state educational provision in Rio in Brazil

To establish what children know and can do at the age of 4 and to record how this progresses over the next 3 years
Children are assessed in Portuguese using the iPIPS range of assessments which includes cognitive development related to reading and mathematics, ratings of personal and social development by teachers, physical development and behaviour. The assessments are repeated over the three years
