ECS Health and Safety Policy
This manual contains information on the current regulations and guidelines affecting the Health and Safety of all the individuals that work and study in the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences (ECS), and also of all visitors to the School.
It is the responsibility of all members of staff and students of the School of ECS to ensure that they are fully familiar with all School Safety Policy and particularly statements that affect their own working areas.
Ignorance of any guideline or regulation is no defence in a court of law, and any individual is liable to prosecution under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, it is the duty of every member of the School to ensure both their own safety and the safety of all other persons in the School. It is therefore the duty of everyone to comply with safety regulations, respect the safety equipment provided within the School, not to misuse it, and to report any safety hazards or defective safety equipment to one of the Safety Committee Representatives or directly to the School Health and Safety Coordinator.
The safety policy statements contained within this document have been examined and passed by the School Safety Committee. The School Health and Safety Coordinator will update this document as necessary.
