Figure 3.5: The Danish island of Læsø in the Kattegat. A shallow aquifer is saline and a salt-making industry was present here. Both regular enclosures and random heaps of waste seem to have resulted. This is too far north for sun-only evaporation of brine and fuel supplies on the island were limited.
