Biography
How did cultural exchange and ethnic divisions shape the identity in rural communities? Starting from this question, my research explores the history of the family in the Transylvanian Romanian peasant communities, from a cultural and social perspective. Constructed as a case study, I examine through family history, the historical events that marked Europe in the first part of the twentieth century. Drawing on oral history and various other ego documents and archival sources, the thesis aims to chart the experiences of a ‘silent community’, namely the Romanian peasants, and introduce them into the larger European themes of urbanisation, war, and ideological changes.
