Mr. Ismail Shafeeu
Mr. Shafeeu is a doctoral research student at School of Education at Durham University. He started his professional career in education as an assistant teacher in his home island in Maldives. After obtaining his undergraduate degree in teaching, he worked as a senior chemistry teacher and managed curriculum in both secondary and higher secondary level.
In his quest for professional development in educational field, he pursued a post graduate degree in educational management from University Malaya, Malaysia. With that qualification Mr. Shafeeu undertook several positions in the educational sector, including the post of principal in one of the leading school in Maldives and a key policy level job in the Education Ministry of Maldives.
Research at Durham University
As a Commonwealth scholar, Mr. Shafeeu has started his doctoral studies in Durham University in October 2015. The primary objectives of his research are aimed to explore the relationship between principal’s instructional leadership and school effectiveness and whether principal’s instructional leadership could contribute to students’ academic achievement in lower secondary completion exam in Maldives.
The sample used for the research includes teachers from all the government schools that offer secondary schooling in Maldives. Primary data collection was conducted in Maldives from first week of April 2016 to end of May 2016. The average percentage of responses received from all the 185 school is about 81.41%.
