Luminescence dosimetry with ceramic materials for application to radiological emergencies and other incidents.
In the event of a radiation emergency involving the potential exposure of large number of individuas, the UK lacks a means of rapidly obtaining a measure of radiation dose to individuals. This is essential to enable a rapid classification of individuals into medical treatment categories. Fortuitously, electronic components in personal devices (e.g., mobile phones) contain ceramic materials which can be used to measure the radiation dose in such circumstances. This project will develop a system of individual radiation dose measurement based on the luminescence properties of ceramic materials
