Biography

I work on the intersection between philosophy, ecology, and literature in Latin America. Drawing from research in the Environmental Humanities and Latin American Studies, I address the complex relationships between culture and nature as they are manifested in literature. My work has led me to complete research throughout the Americas: Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.

My first book project engages with the continental imaginaries of the plains in nineteenth and twentieth century literatures in Latin America, revealing the settler ecologies behind the metaphors of the plains as empty and barren lands. I have also published on monoculture and extractivist epistemologies in the Chaco region of South America, especially those surrrounding yerba mate plantations in the work of Horacio Quiroga, Augusto Roa Bastos and Rafael Barrett. Having studied under Enrique Dussel at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), I am invested in engaging with the issues raised by the Philosophy of Liberation in its commitment to a decolonial pluriversality.

My current research engages with drought narratives in the Global South.
