Durham Model United Nations Conference

(21 November 2019)

Are you interested in global problems? Have you ever wondered why the Middle East has so much negative news coverage? Have you ever thought you could do better than our current world leaders? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, DurMUN 2020 is for you! Join us for three days of exciting debates and fun socials while trying to solve world problems our leaders have been struggling with for years!

DurMUN 2020 is going to take place between 17-19 January 2020. Our annual theme is “Encouraging Stability in Turbulent Times” and we are focusing entirely on the Middle East. We are offering the chance to join four different committees, each simulating the work of a UN institution:

1. United Nations Environment Programme with the topic of "Environmental Degradation and Social Stability in the Middle East"

2. Economic and Social Council with the topic of "Mitigating Economic Inequality and Preventing Corruption in Middle Eastern Countries"

3. Disarmament and International Security Council with the topic of "Working towards a Final Peace Agreement Between Israel and Palestine"

4. United Nations Security Council with the topic of "The Situation in Yemen."

However, DurMUN 2020 is much more than just debating. Participants are going to have the opportunity to enjoy a long informal night-out, a formal dinner in a historic venue and a keynote speech by Sir Richard Jolly, former Assistant Secretary-General of the UN.

Chair and director applications are open until Saturday 30 November while delegate applications are until Friday 20 December.
