International Women's Day - Student Panel
(13 February 2020)
In honour of International Women's Day 2020, students of the Durham Leadership & Development Programme are hosting an exciting networking and debating event, with special guest speakers, on Monday 9 March 2020 5 - 9pm.
What is International Women's Day?
The history behind International Women’s Day dates to the early 20th century. Since then the movement for equality and female empowerment has made a lot of progress. This year we hope to bring this message to our community. We aim to make Durham University a beacon of student female empowerment and help women achieve their dreams in their careers and in life.
What are we planning?
On Monday 9 March 2020 we will host a panel of Durham alumni and influential women. Through this panel, we believe we could create a set of aims and values to outline our goals for women in leadership who come through Durham University.
- 5 - 6pm (Kenworthy Hall, St Mary's) Networking reception – You will get a chance to talk to the panellists in person to discuss the issues women face. We will also host several student societies who will raise awareness of how they champion women's issues. A drinks reception will be provided.
- 6 - 7:30pm (TLC 033) Panel discussion, Q&A - You can join us at the Teaching and Learning Centre for a panel discussion. The women panellists will talk about what this IWD means to them, and discuss #EachForEqual. The discussion will then be opened up to audience members with a round of Q&A.
- 7.30 - 8.30pm (TLC) - Finally, the invitees will hold small seminar style breakout sessions with more in-depth discussion and open debate, until about 8.30pm.
We welcome you all to join us in celebrating Women in Leadership
