Re: Tension - Educational film screening and workshop discussing institutional racism within UK HE

Re:Tension explores the reality of how racism, micro-aggressions and unconscious bias can function in academic institutions. Please join us to watch this powerful film, and to discuss and share your ideas on how to tackle racism in our UK universities with a focus on Durham University.

Organised by Durham University BAME Network in partnership with Leeds Trinity University. 

On the day we will be screening this powerful film which addresses the experiences of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic students within our universities, which will serve as a great opener for a frank post-screening discussion on these issues at Durham University.

After watching the film (20 mins), the audience will have the opportunity to participate in a practical workshop moderated by:

  • Ricardo Baker, film maker, Senior Lecturer in Film Production at Leeds Trinity University.
  • Syra Shakir, Senior Teaching Fellow at Leeds Trinity University and Co-Chair of the Leeds Trinity BAME network.

Who should attend?

All staff and students interested in the subject (i.e. lecturers, researchers, professional services, leadership team, students (UG/PG) and alumni.

Anyone interested in the subject of the film are welcome to attend.
