Creating an Integrated Student Experience (CISE) Programme

(21 May 2021)

We are passionate about delivering an outstanding world-class student experience – it is core to being a member of Durham University and why we do our job. Although we have many areas of excellent practice, we know that there are parts of the “Student Journey” that students describe as ‘disjointed’, ‘frustrating’ and ‘stressful’, whilst staff tell us that they sometimes feel they do not have the information, technology/systems processes or policies they require to support students effectively.

Last week, UEC endorsed the development of an outline business case for a programme of work known as Creating an Integrated Student Experience (CISE) that will take a holistic approach to delivering the systems required to:

  • Enable a world class student experience
  • Improve the staff experience as they engage and support students
  • Allow us to meet our statutory obligations.

To develop the business case, we need students and staff from across the University to help us identify the key priorities for the programme, drawing in particular on the Students’ Union, student body representatives, Education, CIS, Faculties, Departments, Colleges and Professional Services.

How you can help

In the first instance, we will be holding a series of workshops with students and staff throughout May and June to better understand the pain points that students and staff face and to prioritise the work needed to remedy these issues. This information will be key to our development of the business case.

Invitations have now gone out for these sessions, and on behalf of Antony Long (Programme Sponsor), John Hemingway and Michael Gilmore, we thank you for taking the time to be part of these important sessions and helping to shape the future of our organisation.

Next steps

As the programme progresses, we will be sharing updates in Dialogue Signposts. If you or any of your colleagues have any further questions, please direct them to Zoe Hunter, CISE Programme Director at the programme mailbox CISE.programme@durham.ac.uk
