Race Equality Charter (REC) update

After due consideration, the University has agreed to submit its REC application and action plan to Advance HE in February 2022 in order to give this hugely significant piece of work the time, energy and focus it requires and specifically: to enable us to include actions around understanding and mitigating against the impact of Covid-19 viewed through a race lens; to enable our new Vice-Chancellor to input into, and personally to endorse, the University’s REC application; and to ensure that the PVC (EDI), once in post, has the opportunity to input meaningfully into the action plan and application.
We are committed to improving the experience of our staff and students and certainly will not be waiting until February 2022 to make real headway. A significant amount of the preparation required to pave the way for the actions to be delivered is already in hand. Examples of these activities can be found here.
