The Staying Strong Project

(23 April 2021)

Team Durham is launching ‘The Staying Strong Project’, a holistic training programme for any individual aged 40+. As we get older we experience a decrease in muscle mass, muscular strength and bone density. Strength training offers multi-system benefits which combat these effects, improving overall quality and longevity of life. Although the benefits are understood, it’s often a lack of knowledge and confidence which means adults are less likely to focus on resistance training.

This programme aims to empower its members to safely and confidently navigate their way through resistance training to improve overall health and wellbeing whilst accessing other areas such as physio and nutrition support.

We are offering 8 staff members aged 40 and above the chance to participate in a 6-week training programme from Monday 17 May to Monday 28 June. The sessions will be led by our highly skilled and accredited Strength and Conditioning coaches and will run on a Monday and Friday 12pm-1pm in the Performance Hubs at the Sports and Wellbeing Park.

The 6-week block will be based around learning key movement patterns and reinforcing the technical aspects of each movement. The programme will not only be educational but also enjoyable and no prior experience of lifting weights or gym training is required. We only ask that you come with an enthusiasm to learn new things in a supportive environment to help you become stronger for life's everyday challenges.
