Furniture reuse saves £50,000 and saves the carbon equivalent of planting 25 trees
(29 January 2021)
Warp It is a great system for reusing any unwanted office furniture and equipment within the University. Across all departments, staff have saved over £50,000 through reusing furniture and equipment. This has not only saved money and resources but enough carbon that’s equivalent to planting 25 trees. Help save furniture in your department and become a Warp It member today.
Last term the Space Management Team worked with the Sustainability Team to help store unwanted furniture for future reuse which is now available online; whilst other items found new homes, this saved £3,000.
We have 400 members so far and looking at the current leader boards - June Horne is at the top of the leader board saving 50 items, which is the equivalent of planting 3 trees!
Can we get Durham University on the leader board for the top savings per month? This month we're at £3,000, the 10th place is held by 'Royal Free London NHS' at £7,464... And the top three universities are the University of Kent, The University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow.
