Update to managed windows machines

(8 January 2021)

Next week CIS will begin updating all University managed Windows 10 staff devices to Windows 10 2004. The update will install in the background like all Microsoft updates, however it will require a longer reboot to complete. Please note that this reboot can take between 10 and 30 minutes depending on your computer’s performance. You will be prompted when the reboot is required and we recommend you choose to suspend the reboot until a convenient time such as a lunch break or when you finish work for the day.

The teaching desktops were updated before the vacation.

The update will be deployed to devices regardless of whether you are on-site or off-site as long as you have MDS Remote installed (if you haven't you should do so to ensure your device is updated) and will commence on the following dates:

  • Monday 11 January – Colleges
  • Wednesday 13 January – PSS Departments
  • Monday 18 January – All remaining users

There shouldn’t be any noticeable differences to your computer once the update is complete. In the unlikely event of any issues please contact the IT Service Desk by logging a new call at https://servicedesk.durham.ac.uk or by calling us on 41515.
