University Library and Collections - lockdown restrictions update

As we all start to understand the implications of the new lockdown restrictions announced on Saturday, we can happily reassure you that currently, these measures don’t affect any of the services being offered by our department. We will continue to support you by providing: 

  • access to pre-booked study spaces across several Covid-secure venues on campus and in the wider city 
  • our Browse and Borrow service from Bill Bryson Library, allowing you pre-booked time to borrow items you require 
  • a wide range of online resources, with over 400,000 ebooks and around 20,000 ejournals
  • specialist support from our Faculty Librarians
  • support and information from our friendly and approachable staff through our Virtual Enquiry Desk
  • our 24/7 Live Chat service allows you to get in touch with the Library for support any time, day or night
  •  the Bill Bryson Library remains open 22/7 and there is University researcher and teaching access to our museum collections and archives and special collections.

One change we do need to make you aware of is that you must now wear a face covering at all times within our buildings and study spaces, even when sitting at your study desk (unless you are exempt). [please make this sentence bold.] This is following guidance from the Government and a change to University policy and comes into effect immediately.

Liz Waller, Director of Library Services and University Librarian, said:

‘Our team is dedicated to providing you with help and support, and we pride ourselves on delivering high-level customer service, specialist support and guidance on accessing our extensive collections, physically or digitally. 

‘Over the last six months, we have adapted our services to allow you to access them in a Covid-secure environment. In the future, we may need to adapt once again, depending on government guidance and the potential of further lockdown restrictions. However, your needs are at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to providing you with the support and services you need this academic year while keeping everyone safe.’
