Chancellor's Appeal - Covid-19 Recovery Fund
(24 July 2020)
As you may know, last week our Chancellor, Sir Thomas Allen, launched a short-term, University-wide Chancellor’s Appeal to raise £300,000 as part of Durham's efforts to support our student and research community. The Covid-19 Recovery Fund will support: low-income students with increased financial burdens, key worker individuals and families, researchers in financial need, and ‘Class of 2020’ graduates whose finances and wellbeing have been hardest hit by coronavirus.
This fund will complement existing scholarship funds raised via the Durham Inspired campaign and via other college and departmental appeals. Applications for targeted bursary support will be made available to all students of every college and department, home and/or international. Grants will be between £250 and £2000 and prioritised by urgency/depth of need. Grants will be administered primarily by SSFSIO and - once funds are raised and the scheme is launched - we will circulate application information for staff/student awareness.
The Appeal has had a successful launch weekend with some early communications to existing supporters and, with existing funds committed, we are now almost £263K towards our initial target, which will support hundreds of members of our community when they need it most. We will be sharing the Appeal more widely this week to push us up to that target. We would be very grateful if you are able to share through your own networks over the coming days.
