Virtual Open month preparations are under way
(26 June 2020)
Throughout July, we will be hosting in excess of 320 Microsoft Teams Live Events to showcase the best of Durham University to our prospective students, replacing our planned on-campus pre-application Open Days. The launch event is taking place on Friday 3 July and to date we have had over 11,000 bookings from prospective students.
The Open Day sessions will deliver a series of webinars to showcase our University, provide an overview and an opportunity to answer any questions that attendees may have. Sessions will cover all undergraduate academic courses, college life, the Wider Student Experience and Professional Support Services.
To support the presenters, we also need staff to take up the role of ‘producer’ within sessions to ensure the content is correct for the audience, and also the role of ‘moderator’ to manage the live Q&A on the day. Following our call out last week, we have had an amazing response from staff across the University, volunteering their time to support this important initiative.
Staff and Durham Student Ambassadors are now taking part in intensive training and preparation to learn how to be effective online producers, presenters and moderators. This is a completely new skill set for many of us that requires a bit of coaching and practice, so we will be running dress rehearsals and drop-in sessions to offer additional support. Thanks to everyone who has committed to taking part and volunteering their time to make these virtual open sessions a success; it is very much appreciated.
We know everyone is busy and working hard during this challenging time, so we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported this monumental Open Month effort! Let us put our best foot forward, and as they say in show business break a leg.
