The Great BioSoc Bark Off

(22 May 2020)

Each year, the Department of Biosciences hosts a bake off contest. This year, due to Covid-19, it's going to be a bark off - a virtual charity dog walk. Staff and students are invited to take part or sponsor a dog.

Staff and students are invited to take their dog for a walk on Friday 5 June to raise money for St Teresa’s Hospice, which provides day, in-patient and community care for people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Darlington, South Durham and North Yorkshire.

The Hospice's fundraising has been decimated by the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced the cancellation and postponement of a host of fundraising events and the temporary closure of its chain of charity stores.

The Hospice needs to raise £3 million per year to support its work. BioSoc are hoping to raise some money for the Hospice from students and staff completing a sponsored walk wherever they are currently staying. The justgiving page is hosted by Baxter the dog (who belongs to Gillian Campling the Course Leader in BioSciences) and details of his canine accomplices can be found there too:
