New foot and cycle path to open soon
(31 January 2020)
As part of our Infrastructure Improvements project to enhance movement around the University, a new foot and cycle path linking Hollingside Lane and Howlands park and ride will open for use on Monday 10 February. This will go through the woods near Collingwood College, running parallel to South Road. The next phase of the project is to enhance the existing footpath along South Road between Hollingside Lane and Howlands park and ride. To allow this work to take place, the existing footpath will be closed from Monday 10 February until Monday 24 February. Please use the new route instead.
Our contractor Colas is also preparing to create a remodelled gateway ‘hub’ at the junction of Hollingside Lane and South Road, with landscaping and a new signalised pedestrian crossing on South Road. To allow this work, 18 trees must be felled – work that will take place between Monday 10 February and Friday 14 February. During this period, a three-way traffic light system will be in place at the Hollingside Lane junction between 9.30am and 3.30pm. A traffic management marshal will be on hand to assist with vehicle movement.
We have designed the Infrastructure Improvements project with care for our shared environment in mind. For every tree felled, one will be planted; and there will be no net loss of vegetation or biodiversity.
