Introducing Durham Mathematics School

(4 October 2019)

A new flagship Mathematics School, which is currently planned to open in 2022, will benefit talented students across the North East who would not otherwise have access to post-16 mathematics education. The school will serve County Durham, Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, Cleveland, the North Yorkshire Coast, and Cumbria, targeting students in schools where there is limited local mathematics provision. We will be working closely with Durham Sixth Form Centre as we continue to develop plans for the school over the coming months. Further information about Durham Mathematics School is available here.

As well as providing specialist teaching for a select number of students, Durham Mathematics School will also deliver outreach projects across the region and professional development opportunities for maths teachers. It will act as a beacon across the North East and Cumbria, raising standards in mathematics, attracting the brightest teachers, and opening opportunities for many young people.

This project is being run in partnership between Durham University and Durham Sixth Form Centre.
