Durham Opera Ensemble presents 'Die Fledermaus'
(20 February 2019)
Durham Opera Ensemble will be taking over Durham’s Gala Theatre from Friday, 22 February - Sunday, 23 February, to perform an English translation of Strauss's timeless comedy, 'Die Fledermaus' - including its famous ballroom scene. Thanks to help from Durham University Ballet Company, the highlight of the show promises to be an extravagant and frivolous Viennese party, full of wine, song, and beautiful dance.
Translated from the original German libretto hailed as one of the best comic operas of all time, ‘Die Fledermaus’ offers it all: singing, dancing, forbidden love and lots of laughs. Over 75 students are involved in what promises to be a production of massive scale, appealing to all ages.
DOE returns to the Gala after recent sell-out performances of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’, Britten’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, and Bizet’s ‘Carmen’.
