University Senate: February 2019

Senate met on Tuesday, 5 February and items on the agenda included the approval of all of the recommendations of the White Paper of the Effectiveness Review of Boards of Studies, which will now be presented to Council and Senate's endorsement of several key items for approval by Council such as:

  • Updated Brand Values for the University;
  • A revised Global Strategy;
  • A proposal to establish a Faculty of Business;
  • Proposals for changing the business and composition of the University Executive Committee;
  • A proposal to establish a Mathematics School in response to the Department for Education’s invitation;
  • Non-Academic Misconduct Procedure;

Senate is responsible for maintaining academic governance, quality and standards at the University. February Senate therefore:

  • Discussed the sector-wide theme of degree classification and endorsed a robust response to the UKQSA consultation on this topic
  • Discussed actions being taken to address the findings of the 2018 NSS
  • Received an update on output profiles for REF 2021
  • Discussed the Periodic Review Working Group Green Paper, which is now open for consultation (https://www.dur.ac.uk/ges/periodic.review/)
