Public Lecture on Sustainable Energy Security: options for Bangladesh

Durham University Business School Undergraduate Programmes, MSc Economics and Finance Programmes and the Centre for Environmental and Energy Economics (CE3) are pleased to announce that Mr Monowar Islam, the chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will be leading this lecture on Friday, 7 December at 5pm in MHL 454, Durham University Business School. For further information on this event, please contact Dr Sakib Amin, DUBS Commonwealth Rutherford Fellow, at s.b.amin@durham.ac.uk.

As the chairman of BERC, Mr. Islam has worked towards ensuring the country’s energy security and sustainability. He is also responsible for implementing reforms to promote a competitive market environment and attract private investments. Previously, he served as the permanent secretary of the Power Division for the Bangladesh Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and the chairman of the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company and the Bangladesh-China Power Company. In his long career, he played a vital role in the strategic planning, policy formulation and implementation of mega development projects in the power and energy sector.
