Meeting of University Council

A joint meeting of Council and Senate was held on Tuesday, 8 May. Terry Collins, Chief Executive of Durham County Council delivered an informative and interesting presentation entitled an Ambitious University in an Ambitious City and Region. University Council met on following day. 

Council's key business included: approval of the Lecture Capture Policy and the importance of this being implemented as soon as possible; approval of the University’s registration submission to the Office for Students (OfS); and consideration of a paper from the PVC Colleges and Student Experience setting out the new management and governance structures for the Colleges Division and terms of reference for the College Advisory Boards which will replace the College Councils from the new academic year. This will bring to a closure the final recommendations of the Governance Review.

Council also agreed that the delays arising from issues experienced by the selected accommodation provider for the Mount Oswald project meant a delay to its delivery until 2020. Options for alternative student residential provision for 2019/20 are under discussion.

Council agreed that the University should raise additional financing through a Private Placement, subject to further due diligence being undertaken and a full report to Council.
